Wedding party, feasts prohibited in East Khasi Hills, Ri Bhoi district after rise of COVID-19 positive cases

Shillong July 15: Hosting wedding party and other feasts have been disallowed in Ri Bhoi district and East Khasi Hills district, perhaps, after learning a lesson from attendees of a wedding party at Greenwood Resort in Guwahati on June 27, and a reception in Shillong on July 2 that resulted in some of them and their high risk contacts tested positive for COVID-19.

Deputy chief minister Prestone Tynsong however told reporters that solemnization of marriages in places of worship would be allowed.

Tynsong said that wedding reception in the two districts cannot be allowed in view of the surge of COVID-19 positive cases.

East Khasi Hills district recorded 261 active cases, while 22 cases reported in Ri Bhoi district.

Tynsong said that this restriction would also apply to hosting of other feasts by anyone.
