North Shillong MLA slams ‘peaceful elections’ claims, closing of road at Them ïew Mawlong

Shillong, Mar 11: North Shillong MLA, Adelbert Nongrum on Monday slammed the state government in Assembly over its claim in the Governor’s Address that the law and order situation is peaceful and the conduct of election was peaceful.

Nongrum while participating in the debate on Governor’s Address, questioned the government’s failure to handle the problem related to Them ïew Mawlong and the delay to open the road that passes through the area till date.

He said that the government did not even dare to include him in the Committee, though the area falls under his constituency.

On the claim that conduct of the election to the district councils was peaceful, Nongrum slammed the state government on this, and sought to know action taken against Transport Minister, Sniawbhalang Dhar, whose video had gone viral showing that the minister was standing in a polling station and allegedly prevented voters who were not in favour of his candidate from casting their votes recently.

Nongrum also said that even his party workers (KHNAM) had caught some NPP people who distributed money in the middle of the night for NPP candidate from Mawkhar-Pynthorumkhrah constituency.

“Where are the election officers and why are they not taking action? He asked
