LS polls: MDA partners back Jemino as candidate from Shillong, Agatha from Tura

Shillong Mar 11: Partners of the Meghalaya Democratic Alliance (MDA) government have decided United Democratic Party (UDP) leader, Jemino Mawthoh should be the common candidate from Shillong Parliamentary constituency, while former Union Minister and former NPP legislator, Agatha K. Sangma will be the common candidate from Tura Parliamentary constituency.

While Jemino will stand on the symbol of the UDP (drum) from Shillong Parliamentary constituency, Agatha will stand on the NPP’s symbol (book) from Tura Parliamentary constituency.

The meeting was attended by leaders of political parties which are part of the MDA government which include the NPP, UDP, HSPDP, PDF, NCP and Independents.

The BJP which is also part of the MDA government did not attend the meeting as it has decided to field its own candidates from both the Lok Sabha seats.

Assembly Speaker and President of the UDP, Dr Donkupar Roy said that the MDA partners were determined to win the Lok Sabha elections from both the seats – Shillong and Tura.

Meghalaya NPP president, Dr WR Kharlukhi also said that MDA would get both the seats, as the MDA partners are all out in wipe out the Congress.

The two Lok Sabha seats in Meghalaya will go to polls on April 11.
