Shillong, May 8: Night curfew was promulgated in certain areas along the India-Bangladesh border in Meghalaya’s Pynursla Civil Sub-Division under East Khasi Hills district on Friday to tackle any emergent situation and ensure the safety of people, amid concerns over COVID-19 threat.
Additional District Magistrate in-charge Pynursla Civil Sub-Division, D Hynñiewta promulgated night curfew from 8 pm to 6 am daily with effect from May 8 to May 31 in all villages within 5 kms from the international border pillars No.1251 to 1272.
The Curfew was imposed under Section 144 CrPC together with Regulation 3 of the Meghalaya Epidemic Diseases, COVID-19 Regulations, 2020.
The curfew will not apply to government officials on duty, authorized VDPs and medical emergencies.
“The order was issued so that the pandemic of COVID-19 is contained, reduced and eliminated in Pynursla Civil Sub-Division, by way of ensuring observance of strict protocols of the advisories issued by the State Health and Family Welfare Department,†the additional district magistrate said.
