UDP MDCs in JHADC meet Dy CM over salary, anti-defection issues

JHADC says Khanduli, Moojem are well within Meghalaya

Shillong, Sept 10: JHADC members on Monday sought the intervention of Deputy Chief Minister, Prestone Tynsong into the delay of the government in forwarding the JHAD Chairman and Executive Members (Salaries and Allowances) (Sixth Amendment) Bill, 2018 to the Governor.

The Bill was passed by the Jaintia Hills Autonomous District Council (JHADC) on July 27, seeking to hike the salary of members from Rs 34,000 to Rs 1.10 lakh.

After the meeting, JHADC deputy chief executive member (Dy.CEM) Lamdibok Sumer told reporters that the Deputy Chief Minister was requested to intervene into the matter, and ensure that the Bill is forwarded to the Governor for his approval at the earliest.

Sumer, who is also UDP MDC said that the Bill is lying pending with the District Council Affairs (DCA) department at present.

The Deputy Chief Minister has assured that he would take up the matter with the government.

Meanwhile, the deputy CEM also informed that the need to have anti-defection law in the district councils of the state was also discussed with the Deputy CM which required amendment of the Sixth Schedule to the Constitution of India.

The Meghalaya government had submitted its proposal on the issue which includes the proposal to increase the number of seats in the three autonomous district councils.

The National People’s Party (NPP)-led Executive Committee in JHADC is being supported by almost all political parties including the Congress and BJP.

Interestingly, while other UDP members supported the NPP-led Executive Committee, UDP MDC Moonlight Pariat is the lone opposition member in the Council.
