Puducherry legislators visit Meghalaya

Shillong, Nov 6: Legislators from Puducherry on Monday interacted with Paul Lyngdoh, Chairman of the Public Accounts Committee of the Meghalaya Assembly and decided to ask the Centre to implement a similar funding formula of 90:10 for Puducherrry as being extended to Meghalaya.

The nine-member team, including seven MLAs and two Assembly officials from Puducherry, was led by DMK MLA and chairman of the committee on public accounts R. Siva, and AIADMK MLA, A. Anbalagan who is the chairman of committee on estimates.

The objective of the visit was to know about how the committees of the Meghalaya Assembly work especially the public accounts committee and committee on estimates.

The Puducherry delegates also enquired about programmes being implemented by the state government.

During the meeting, Lyngdoh informed the delegation about the intervention of the Assembly’s public accounts committee in the execution of certain projects and how things move

According to Siva the funding for Puducherry by the Centre is 30 per cent grant, and 70 per cent is loan, and the Union Territory is facing a financial crisis.

“We will pursue with the Centre to also implement a similar funding formula of 90:10 to Puducherry as being extended to Meghalaya,” Siva said.
