Meghalaya CM to visit all blocks under ‘Block to Block’ programme

Shillong, Aug 23: Meghalaya Chief Minister, Conrad K Sangma will visit each Block in the state in order to have firsthand knowledge of schemes, challenges and developmental programmes taken up in different blocks.

The Chief Minister kickstarted the ‘Block to Block’ programme by visiting Jirang Block in Ri-Bhoi district on Thursday and was accompanied by Jirang MLA, Sosthenes Sohtun and Commissioner and Secretary (C & RD department), P Sampat Kumar.

The Chief Minister visited Nongsier and Umlakro villages under Jirang block and reviewed the implementation of MGNREGA, PMAY, JSA and CLLMP schemes.

Addressing the function in the premises of Jirang C & RD Block, the Chief Minister said that the objective of the new programme Block to Block was to visit every block of the State in the next two years.

“The idea of the Block to Block programme is to have firsthand knowledge of the schemes, challenges and the developmental programmes in the different blocks. It is only by visiting villages, speaking to villagers and seeing things with our own eyes, the problems of villagers and rural areas can be understood which will enable the government to come out with better solutions,” the Chief Minister said.

He further encouraged other legislators and officers to also go to villages to interact and understand the problems faced by villagers and come out with programmes for the people living in villages.

The Chief Minister also said that the performance of Jirang block has gone down over the last few years especially in programmes like MGNREGS and added that with more proactive interventions of the Block Development Officer and other officials, the performance of the block will improve, and the benefit will go to the people of the area.
