Meghalaya celebrates 74th Independence Day; CM Conrad Sangma hoists tricolour in Shillong

Shillong, Aug 15 : Along with the rest of the country, Meghalaya on Saturday celebrated the 74th Independence Day across the state.

In the State capital Shillong, Chief Minister, Conrad K. Sangma unfurled the National Flag and took the Rashtriya Salute of three Parade Contingents comprising CRPF, 1st MLP Bn. and Meghalaya Police Radio Organisation and brass band of Border Wing Home Guards.

On the occasion, the Chief Minister handed over the citations to Dr. N. Wanswett, DHS (MCH & FW) in recognition to the works and courage of 71 healthcare front liners working to fight COVID-19 pandemic and who in the process contracted the virus.

Home Guards & Civil Defence Medals for Meritorious Service to Showell Markhap, Sub-Inspector and Rajesh G. Momin, Havildar Instructor were also announced on the occasion.

Independence Day 2020 celebration across the State

At Nongstoin: West Khasi Hills Deputy Commissioner, Shri T. Lyngwa unfurled the National Flag and took the Rashtriya Salute of two police contingents of District Executive Force and 4th MLP Bn at St, Peter’s Higher Secondary School playground Pyndengrei Nongstoin.

The observation ended with the distribution of eatables to patients of Nongstoin Civil Hospital, St. Peter’s Green Pasture Orphanage, Pyndengrei, S.Wollington Children’s Home, Nongspyndeng & Shelter Homes for Boys & Girls and Nondein New- Nongstoin.

At Nongpoh: Ri Bhoi District Deputy Commissioner, Smti R.M Kurbah unfurled the National flag and took the Rashtriya salute of the two parade contingents represented by the 6th MLP Battalion, Umran at a function held at Circuit House, Nongpoh.

At Jowai: West Jaintia Hills Deputy Commissioner, Shri Garod LSN Dykes unfurled the National Flag at Jrisalein Playground, Chutwakhu. It may also be mentioned that as Flag hoisting was permitted in localities, almost all localities in Jowai Town hoisted the National Flag in their respective localities with minimal participants with strict adherence to the SOPs.

At Tura: West Garo Hills Deputy Commissioner, Shri Ram Singh hoisted the National Flag today at P A Sangma Stadium, Dakopgre, and took the Rashtriya Salute of Parade Contingents comprising of Tura DEF and 2nd MLP Battalion, Goeragre.

During the function, the Chief Guest presented the Certificates of Appreciation Award for the Frontline Workers comprising of the team of Medical Officers, Staff Nurses, Technician, Pharmacist, Attendants at Corona Care Centre, Walbakgre for their dedication and commitment in supporting patient care.

The Chief Guest had also presented the Certificates of Appreciation and Cash Prizes for the Field Functionaries of Beldalpara-II Anganwadi Centre under Tura Urban ICDS Project and Rongram Bazaar-I Anganwadi Centre under Rongram ICDS Project for their effort and contribution to improve the health and nutritional status of women and children and adolescent girls in the district under Rashtriya Poshan Abhiyan.

The Chief Guest also felicitated the Committee Members of the Zonal Covid Management Team under Tura Municipality who played an important role in mobilising and imparting awareness in localities, counselling of returnees in community quarantine centres, etc..

Certificates of Appreciation were also given to ISBT Team, Tura and to Sanitization Workers and Bio Medical Waste Collectors of Tura Municipal Board, Tura for their selfless service and dedication during Covid-19 pandemic. On this occasion, the Chief Guest also presented the Certificates of Appreciation and Mementos to all Police Units of West Garo Hills District including Fire and Emergency Services, MPRO, Ministerial Staff of SP Office, Tura in recognition for their relentless effort, hard work, dedication and exemplary performance as Frontline Covid-19 warriors. The launching of the District level Nasha Mukt campaign was also announced during the programme.

At Williamnagar: East Garo Hills Deputy Commissioner, Shri Swapnil Tembe unfurled the National Flag and took the Rashtriya Salute of the parade contingent represented by the Meghalaya Police at Rongrenggre Govt. Higher Secondary School playground.

The highlights of the celebration included felicitation of COVID-19 frontline workers like medical staff, police personnel, volunteers from Bharat Scouts and Guides, Williamnagar Municipal Board staff, IDSP team, ASHAs, Anganwadi workers, etc.

At Baghmara: South Garo Hills Deputy Commissioner, Shri H. B. Marak unfurled the National Flag and took Rashtriya Salute of the parade contingent represented by District Police at District Sports Playground, Baghmara.

The COVID-19 warriors comprising of Doctors, Police and the District Officers of various line departments and staffs were felicitated in recognition for their noble services in tackling the COVID-19 situation in the District. The Field Level Leadership Incentive Award under Poshan Abhiyan is also being awarded to five members of Gitingre Anganwadi Centers under Baghmara ICDS Project for their outstanding performance in every field.

At Resubelpara: North Garo Hills Deputy Commissioner, Shri S. C. Sadhu unfurled the National Flag at Mini Stadium Resubelpara. Highlights of the celebration were felicitation of Covid Warriors, awards and certificates for best performing Anganwadi, ANM and ASHA workers.

At Mawkyrwat: South West Khasi Hills Deputy Commissioner, Miss Isawanda Laloo unfurled the National Flag at the office premises of the Deputy Commissioner, Mawkyrwat. The day was celebrated by following strict health protocols such as social distancing, wearing of masks, thermal screening etc.

During the programme, the Chief Guest released a Video entitled “Pyrkhat Thymmai” which depicts on Behavioral Change and how to eradicate stigmatization on Covid-19 which was published by the office of the District Mental Health Programme, South West Khasi Hills District, Mawkyrwat.

In recognition for their hard work and dedication in the fight against Covid-19, the District Administration felicitated the health workers (including ASHAs and Anganwadi workers) of the CHC, PHCs (Mawthawpdah, Rangthong & Wahkaji). Furthermore, Mementos were also distributed to stakeholders of the KHADC & PWD (IB) and Nativity Convent as a token of appreciation for provision of Institutional quarantine Centres. Mementos and Certificates were also given to Frontline workers of the Corona Care Centre and District Mental Health Programme Counselors in recognition for their untiring services. Besides these, Mementos and Certificates were also distributed to Umjarain Check point Team, SBM Team, Covid-19 warriors (Villages and Myntris including Volunteers) for their continuous support and co-operation in fighting against the Pandemic. Food packages were also distributed to inmates of Hope Orphanage, Mawkyrwat.

At Ampati: South West Garo Hills Deputy Commissioner, Shri Ashish M. Sangma unfurled the National Flag at Ampati Students’ Field, Ampati.

During the function, the Chief Guest gave away the COVID Warrior certificates of appreciation in recognition of the hard work and efforts of all the frontline workers in the district, including the District medical team, District police, executive magistrates, Transport department, PHE & Swachh Bharat Mission team, Disaster Management team, ASHAs & Anganwadi workers, St. Claret Mission and A∙chik Baptist Krima No.VI Pastoral Forum Representation, among many others.

Poshan Abhiyaan Award was also presented to the block level functionaries, namely the Anganwadi worker, Anganwadi helper, ASHA, ANM and Lady Supervisor of Dorgapara Anganwadi Centre in recognition of efforts and contribution towards raising awareness on malnutrition.

At Khliehriat: Deputy Commissioner, East Jaintia Hills District, Shri. F.M. Dopth, unfurled the National Flag at Khliehriat Higher Secondary School Playground, East Jaintia Hills District.

During the function, the Deputy Commissioner handed over the District Bravery Award 2020 to Miss. Lini Dkhar for her courageous act. Awards of Appreciation were also given to Shri Risborn Tongper, J.E., Water Resource Department and Shri Bipin Nitan Kumar. The Best Anganwadi worker under ICDS Khliehriat was given to Smti Letme Dkhar and the Best ASHA worker was awarded to Smti Beauty Chyrmang.

A message of appreciation was also read out, honouring the hardwork, dedication and sacrifice of all the frontline workers, staff and officers of the Health Department and the officers and staff of other departments in the district in the fight against COVID-19. Mementos were also distributed to all the front line workers as a token of appreciation.

At Mairang Civil Sub Division : Sub-Divisional Officer (C), Mairang Civil Sub Division, Shri A. Nongbri, unfurled the National Flag at Madan Dommawlum. The Chief Guest handed over the Certificates of Appreciation to the individuals, health workers, Executive Magistrates, Police Personnel and to Village Management Corona Committees of different villages for their contribution in the fight against COVID-19.

At Sohra Civil Sub-Division: Sub-Divisional Officer (C), Sohra Civil Sub-Division, Shri A. S. Mukhim unfurled the National Flag at Sohra Sports Stadium, Saitsohpen.

A felicitation ceremony was held to acknowledge the remarkable service of various frontline workers, police personnel and organisations in tackling the COVID-19 pandemic Ramkrishna Mission Sohra was also felicitated for rendering humanitarian services especially during this time of the pandemic.

At Amlarem Civil Sub-Division: Sub-Divisional Officer (C), Amlarem Civil Sub-Division, Smti J. Kharpuri unfurled the National Flag at Amlarem Secondary School Playground.

During the programme, the Chief Guest felicitated doctors, ASHAs and Anganwadi workers.

At Dadenggre Civil Sub-Division: Extra Assistant Commissioner, Miss Florina Boro unfurled the National Flag at Dadeng playground, Dadenggre.

At Pynursla Civil Sub-Division : Additional Deputy Commissioner, incharge Pynursla, Civil Sub Division Shri D. Hynniewta unfurled the National Flag and took the Rashtriya Salute of police parade at Urksew Umkor Pynursla Sport Club Stadium.

At Chokpot Civil Sub- Division: Sub-Divisional Officer (C), Chokpot Civil Sub-Division, Shri Dolrich Momin unfurled the National Flag at office premises of the SDO (C), Chokpot Civil Sub-Division.

At Raksamgre Civil Sub-Division: Local MLA and Co-Chairman, Meghalaya State Planning Board, Shri Benedic R. Marak unfurled the National Flag and took the Rashtriya Salute of the parade contingent represented by SF-10 at Raksamgre playground.

At Mawshynrut Civil Sub-Division: Shri P. D. Sangma ADC and incharge SDO (C) Mawshynrut Sub-Division unfurled the tricolor National Flag and took the Rastriya salute of the Police contingent at Riangdo Playground.

At Ranikor Civil Sub-Division: Sub-Divisional Officer (C), Ranikor Civil Sub-Division, Shri H. S. Diengdoh, unfurled the National Flag and took the Rashtriya Salute at the office premises of the SDO (C), Ranikor Civil Sub Division.

At Patharkhmah Administrative Unit: Extra Assistant Commissioner, Smti D. Kharshiing unfurled the National flag and took the Rashtriya Salute of the parade contingent of Meghalaya Police at the office premises of the Block Development Officer, Jirang C&RD Block.

At Hima Shangpung Administrative Unit: Block Development Officer, Laskein Block, Dr. B. Langstang unfurled the National Flag at Madan Moosyiem, Shangpung.
