Shillong, Oct 31: A massive fire broke out in Maxwelton Estate, Oxford Hill, Shillong on Saturday evening.
According to residents, the fire broke out at around 4:50 pm when a gas cylinder burst from one of the houses in the area.
Around eight houses were completely gutted in the fire. The fire started from an old sawmill.
Police informed that the fire started from one storeroom where MCB (Miniature Circuit Breaker) Board is fixed.
Police informed that around eight fire tenders were called in to control the raging fire. Fortunately no loss of lives was reported.
The district administration has come forward to help the residents by giving them accommodation and food.
Sources said that the location where the incident occurred is a disputed land.
