HLC is committed for solution to Them ïew Mawlong issue: Tynsong

Shillong Sept 4: Deputy Chief Minister, Prestone Tynsong said that the High Level Committee (HLC) constituted to find feasible solution to the demand to shift settlers from Them ïew Mawlong was committed to come up with its recommendations to the state government at the earliest possible.

“After completing all due diligence, there will be no delay on our part to submit the recommendations to the state government for its consideration,” Tynsong who is the Chairman of the HLC told reporters after his meeting with a delegation of 12 organizations on Tuesday.

Tynsong said that leaders of the organizations met him and expressed fear that the HLC would end up like other committees in the past.

“I assured them that the HLC is serious and within three months, we have held five sittings. I also made it clear that we will not sit idle till a solution is found out,” he said.

He said that the HLC as advisory body would submit its report and final decision on the issue would be taken by the state government.

Tynsong said that the next sitting of the HLC will be held soon after more documents were received on the issue, adding that the Directorate of Land Records and Survey has been asked to request the Hima Mylliem to also provide documents related to the Them ïew Mawlong.

“The Urban Affairs department had already written to the heads of different departments to verify whether their respective staffs are also residing at Them ïew Mawlong,” he said.

Earlier, a total of 128 staff of the Shillong Municipal Board (SMB), are residing on a plot at Them ïew Mawlong as per the report of the first inventory carried out last month.

Hynñiewtrep Youth Council (HYC) general secretary Roy Kupar Synrem demanded from Tynsong that the HLC should complete its task at the earliest in on the issue.

“The HLC chairman told us that almost 90 percent of the work has been completed, and it will not take much time for the HLC to submit its recommendations to the state government,” he said.

It may be mentioned that the HLC was constituted following violent protests which erupted at Motphran and Mawkhar area on May 31 night. The protest lasted for five days.
