Govt will open Mawlai Bypass and Police Outpost on same day: Dy CM

Shillong July 26: Meghalaya Deputy Chief Minister, Prestone Tynsong informed that the state government would soon open the new bypass road from Mawlai Mawïong to Mawlai Mawkynroh along with the Police Outpost at Mawkynroh.

“The bypass will be inaugurated very soon, and we want to open it on the same day with the new police outpost at Mawlai Mawkynroh near the North Eastern Hill University (NEHU),” Tynsong said on Friday.

The announcement made by the Deputy Chief Minister came after a delegation of headmen from Mawlai led by Mawlai MDC, Teiborlang Pathaw requested the State government to open the police outpost at Mawkynroh before making the Mawlai bypass fully functional.

The Mawlai MDC also urged the Deputy Chief Minister to widen the road from Mawkynroh to Mawroh in order to address traffic jam that may occur in Mawlai area since many vehicles would pass through the bypass road.

On this, Tynsong said that the government has decided to convert the Mawkynroh-Mawroh road into double lane.

“Once the bypass road is opened, I am confident that traffic jam along the Shillong-Guwahati highway would come down especially from Mawlai Mawïong to Petrol Pump,” he said.

The government has spent over Rs 7 crore to build the bypass road from Mawïong to Mawkynroh.
