Shillong Feb 25, 2020:
Leader of Opposition, Mukul Sangma on Tuesday asked the MDA government to find ways and means to prevail upon the Centre to consider the resolution passed by the State Assembly for implementation of the Inner Line Permit (ILP) in the state.

“The resolution has been adopted in the Assembly and it is incumbent upon the state government to find all ways and means to prevail upon Government of India to agree to the proposal of the state government,” Mukul told reporters.
His statement came after Union home minister Amit Shah had recently assured the state government delegation led by chief minister Conrad K Sangma that the Centre will examine the resolution.

The former chief minister also maintained that the ILP has been felt as the need of the hour because of the anticipated fallout of the Citizenship (Amendment) Act, 2019.

“You will see lots of other unforeseen developments unfolding in as far as the effect of the CAA is concerned,” Mukul said.

Meanwhile, the Congress leader has also slammed the BJP-led NDA government and alleged it of distorting the history and legacy of the nation while justifying the need to implement the CAA.

He said the justification that the Government of India is giving through union home minister was that during the time of partition and post independence, the nation was divided based on religious lines.

“We know post independence people who agreed to come together and be part of the union of states of this great nation agreed upon on certain principles, on certain understanding and the similar kind of situations which was the factor for Pakistan to come into being post independence/partition. Yes Pakistan wanted their nation to be based on religious lines but not India,” Mukul said.

He further alleged that this distortion of history and legacy of this great nation is with a pre-determine intent.

“They want to distort the history and legacy of the nation and ultimately engaged in their agenda which has been time and again rejected and opposed tooth and nail by the people of this country,” he added.
