CM pays surprise visit to construction site of new Assembly building

Shillong, June 13: Chief Minister, Conrad K Sangma said that civil construction works for the new Assembly building will complete in 12 months.

Sangma who paid surprise visit to the construction site at Mawdiangdiang, said that he went to visit the construction of new Assembly building and found that the progress of works was going on very well.

“Civil works construction, we expect will complete in the next 12 months. Interior works would take another 12 months to be completed. We are happy to see that works are going on at a very fast pace,” he said.

The Uttar Pradesh-based Rajkiya Nirman Nigam Limited was entrusted by the high powered committee (HPC) of the Meghalaya Assembly to construct the new Assembly building at 80 acres of land at Mawdiangdiang.

The Rajkiya Nirman Nigam Limited began its construction on June 15, 2019, and it is expect to complete by 2022, the year when Meghalaya will celebrate its 50th year of statehood.

Though the project cost was estimated at Rs 145 crore, but the quotation that came from the Rajkiya Nirman Nigam Limited was Rs 127 crore.

Meghalaya has been without its own Assembly building after the 125-year-old Burmese teak building at Khyndai Lad was reduced to ashes fire on January 9, 2001.
