BSF nabs 11 Bangladeshi Hindu nationals in South Garo Hills

Shillong, Dec 6: Eleven Bangladeshi Hindu nationals including four minors were arrested by BSF troops of the Meghalaya Frontier in South Garo Hills district.

A statement issued on Thursday said that an Indian national, Manmohan Majumdar (48 yrs) of West Bengal’s Cooch Behar district, suspected to be a tout, was also arrested along with the Bangladeshi nationals.

The Bangladeshi nationals were arrested on Wednesday during checking of vehicles on Hill road National Highway-62 between Baghmara, the district headquarters of South Garo Hills and Tura, the district headquarters of West Garo Hills. Baghmara is close to the International Border.

The arrested persons identified as Nirmal Sarkar, Pronoy Dey, Sapan Barman, Kabi Ranjan Dey, Nupur Talukdar, Suma Sarkar, Kana Rai, claimed that they have relatives who are already residing in Cooch Behar district.

The troopers seized Indian currency notes worth Rs.8,000/- and Bangladesh Taka– 47,000 besides their personal belongings from their possession.

“At present, just before General Election in Bangladesh, a tense situation is prevailing in Bangladesh and under these circumstances minority community are seemingly feeling insecure in Bangladesh,” Nayal stated in the statement.

He said these arrested Bangladeshis were trying to infiltrate into Indian territory through unfenced jungle area for further safe passage.

“During the questioning, Majumdar revealed that he exfiltrated into Bangladesh one week before and there onwards he contacted all Bangladeshi nationals with the help of one Bangladesh national Sukumar Dayal Hajong,”

“After reaching Bangladesh he (Majumdar) contacted willing Hindus who want to come with him to settle in India. He is one of the most wanted person in Bangladesh who always used to go to into Bangladesh for motivation of Hindus for migration,” Nayal said.

Nayal said Majumdar, who have been arrested by Bangladesh security has confessed that he was residing in Kalmakanda, Nayabazar in Bangladesh since 17 years.
