Shillong, Mar 16: The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has assured that if it comes to power in the Garo Hills Autonomous District Council (GHADC) it will transform it into a “territorial council†with more power, more department and direct funding from the centre by speeding up the amendment to the Sixth Schedule.
The manifesto also promises that if the saffron party comes to power in the GHADC it will abolish the non-schedule areas and empower the traditional bodies to take up local administration, protecting the interest of the people in the Scheduled areas.
The manifesto also assures that the BJP will authorize the local heads over the resources and minerals available in their jurisdiction.
The BJP also will also introduce online revenue collection system to enhance the working mechanism of the GHADC.
The BJP has also promised to generate employment opportunities to sustain the youths and introduce firms, factories and industries according to availability of raw materials.
Meanwhile, the BJP has also assured the people of Garo Hills that it will cut down collection of axes by the state government in the scheduled areas and minimize the shares given to the government as it has hampered the council financially.
