With onset of monsoon, DDMA of EKH issues public advisory

SHILLONG, JUNE 12: The District Disaster Management Authority (DDMA) of East Khasi Hills on Monday issued an advisory urging the public to take safety precautions with the onset of the monsoon season.

The advisory issued by the chairperson of the DDMA said that people are required to take extra care during heavy rainfall as there is a likelihood of flash floods, especially in areas near the rivers and streams.

It said that people are requested not to go near the waters, walk through moving water and stay away from streams, drains, culverts, etc.

The advisory also prohibited people from driving through flooded areas and staying away from electric poles or power lines to avoid electrocution.

Students are advised not to cross rivers and streams during heavy rain.

Tourists visiting the tourist spots are also advised not to venture into streams, rivers and waterfalls.

In case of any emergency, the public may contact the District Emergency Operations Centre @ 0364-2225289/2502094 and State Emergency Operations Centre @ 0364-2502098.
