Shillong, Jun 11: Meghalaya Legislative Assembly Speaker Metbah Lyngdoh on Friday attended the Commonwealth Parliamentary Association Zone III virtual meet held under the chairmanship of the Speaker of Arunachal Pradesh, Pasang Dorjee Sona.
The virtual meeting was held on the issue of a racial statement made by youtuber Paras Singh against Congress MLA from Arunachal Pradesh, Ninong Ering.
The Meghalaya Assembly Speaker informed that all Assembly Speakers of the eight northeastern states have decided to submit a memorandum to Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla to address issues of racism against persons from the region.
The Assembly speaker also said, that it is high time India take racial discrimination within the country seriously before it starts penetrating into the minds of the younger generation.
The virtual meeting was attended by Speakers of Mizoram, Nagaland, Meghalaya, Arunachal Pradesh and the Deputy Speaker of Assam. The speakers of Manipur and Sikkim did not attend the meeting.
