MLCU organises awareness programme on drug abuse and illicit trafficking

Shillong, Jun 23: The Meghalaya Police, East Khasi Hills in collaboration with the Martin Luther Christian University today conducted an Awareness Programme on Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking in the university campus, which was attended by students and faculty of the different departments of the university.

Swapnil Pawar police officer, East Khasi Hills, Meghalaya while giving his presentation on Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking, spoke about the rampant rise of drug availability and drug use in the state.

Pawar stressed on the fact that the youth are the most vulnerable and susceptible to be coerced into drug use and hence it would make sense that the students of the university will be able to learn about this and make changes that would help their fellow youth.

He also added that drug use and illicit trafficking has led to an increase in other crimes in the state and therefore he encouraged everyone to use the MEG- CopWatch- Women safety app to report any crime against women and children.

The students also got a chance to interact with the police officer during the question hour where students tried to clear doubts and problems they might face in their day to day encounter with drug abusers and on how to handle them.
