Delivering his inaugural address, the Chief Minister said that the Dr H Gordon Roberts Hospital has over the years overcome the challenges with an objective of serving mankind with dedication.

“From a humble beginning of School of Nursing with just two students to the College of Nursing as it stands today, the hospital, its staff and faculty have overcome the challenges and it is heartening to note that the College of Nursing is being inaugurated in the 50th Year of the Statehood,” he said.

He also added that it is important for the hospital and the College of Nursing to lay visions for producing empathetic, dedicated and faithful nurses.

“With the backing, guidance and support of the Presbyterian church this college will produce nurses who will not only save lives but also make a difference in people’s lives,” he added.

The Chief Minister also said that it is important that institutes like these come up in the State to be able to channelize the energies of the youth in the right direction to make them productive citizens.

He added that institutes like the Dr H Gordon Roberts Hospital College of Nursing will provide the platform but also urged the college and the hospital to ensure that the standards of professionals are at the international level.

“I suggest that the college have an option of Japanese or Thai in its curriculum so that as these young people do their nursing course, they also learn the language and culture which can help them in their future career,” the Chief Minister added.

He also assured of all help and support to the hospital and the college in its service to mankind and the society.
