Shillong, Sep 20: Pressure groups from Mawlai – Khasi Students Union (KSU), Federation of Khasi Jaintia and Garo People (FKJGP), Hynniewtrep National Youth Front (HNYF) on Monday staged protest at Civil Hospital Point demanding justice for ex-HNLC general secretary Cherish S Thangkhiew who was killed when police raided his residence at Mawlai Kynton Massar on August 13.
“Ka Sur Ki Nong Mawlai†were also joined in by the Ri-Bhoi Youth Federation, along with a large number of supporters from across the Khasi-Jaintia Hills region.
Speaking at the protest rally, KSU president, Lambokstarwell Marngar slammed the government for not paying heed to the voice of the people demanding the suspension of the police officers.
“The top cops responsible for the alleged killing of Thangkhiew should not be allowed to go scot-free,” Marngar said.
The KSU president also said that the youth of the state are frustrated at the failure of the state government to listen to their demands.
FKJGP general secretary, Dundee C. Khongsit said action against those responsible for killing Thangkhiew was important so that in the future police will not dare to take away people’s life.
Meanwhile, HNYF, president Sadon Blah said that Thangkhiew had come overground with the sole objective to bring the HNLC to the negotiating table.
Blah alleged that the police do not want that there should be dialogue with the HNLC.
