A friendly football match, as an observance of the International Day Against Drug Abuse


Shillong, 23 June: A friendly football match between the Meghalaya Police of the East Khasi Hills DEF and
the Shillong Press Club was organised at the SAI Football ground in NEHU Shillong on
the 22nd June 2022 as an observance of the International Day Against Drug Abuse and
Illicit Trafficking on the 26th of June 2022.
Speaking on the occasion, Chief Guest Dr. L. R Bishnoi, IPS Director General of Police
said that drug abuse is spreading in the state touching the rural areas where young
people are falling prey to it. He iterated that the police department is conducting regular
awareness programs in public places and institutions on the same, stating that the police
is also keeping a close watch on drug traffickers in the state and that regular training for
police is being conducted so that they understand the nitty gritty involved in drug abuse
and illicit trafficking violations.
“I am happy to witness the enthusiasm displayed today and I’m sure this will go a long
way in enhancing or relationship so that together we can fight this evil,” Bishnoi said
while commending East Khasi SP and his team for a job well done.
The game began at a healthy pace with the uniformed men attacking right from the word
go. The journos withstood the onslaught bravely and slowly began to penetrate the
opposition’s half but resolute defending kept the men in blue in a safe position.
Displaying good skill and professionalism both teams dished out their utmost best, and
remained 1-1 at half time. However in the end the men from East Khasi Hills DEF
prevailed over the scribes and lens men by 4-1.
Scorers for the police were Robert Nongspung-1, Chesterfield Nongdhar-2, Kamal
Thapa-1 while the lone goal for the Shillong Press Club was scored by Alemon Suchiang.
Others present in the event were IG Mukesh Singh, DIG Eastern Range Davis R Marak,
SP East Khasi Hills Sylvester Nongtnger, SP (Shillong City) Vivek Syiem and Shillong
