Shillong, Aug 19: A village Dorbar in Ri-Bhoi district has allegedly prohibited a woman from operating her poultry business in the village for a period of five years.
Perisha Dewsaw of Quinine village, and a mother of three children, was recently put under suspension by the Dorbar Shnong following complaints that she was found drinking in a mill.
Speaking to reporters, Dewsaw said that she was prohibited from carrying on with her business on May 20.
She said that the decision of the Dorbar Shnong, which has acted based on false accusation, has affected her livelihood which is her only source for supporting her family.
Denying the allegation that she involved in drinking, Dewsaw however said that she was never given any opportunity to defend herself and the Dorbar Shnong went ahead by taking such a decision against her.
When contacted, the village headman, B. Lyngdoh however claimed that before taking the decision by the Dorbar Shnong, the woman was given a warning against her alleged involvement in immoral activities, but she failed to correct her ways.
He further informed that the Dorbar Shnong had recently received her apology letter, and the matter would be taken up on August 21 in a meeting of the Dorbar and accordingly take a call on it.
