Shillong, June 21: The BJP has joined hands with the Congress in the Khasi Hills Autonomous District Council (KHADC) in opposing the ban on sale of cattle for slaughter.
The BJP’s support came on the second day of the summer session of the KHADC on Wednesday, when Congress member and Leader of Opposition, Manstudy Nongrem brought a resolution opposing the “Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (Regulation of Livestock Markets) Rules, 2017” issued by the Central government.
Moving the Resolution, Nongrem said that the rules would have far reaching and wide impact on the people, and called upon the House to unanimously resolve in opposing the rules by urging the Executive Committee to write to the Central government conveying its strong opposition.
After deliberation, the People’s Democratic Forum (PDF) that leads an executive committee with P.N. Syiem as the Chief Executive Member, supported and accepted the Resolution brought by the Congress.
The PDF-led Executive Committee in KHADC is supported by the BJP, which has its lone member, Antonio War, who is also an Executive Member (EM) in-charge Trade.
